Labor’s Train Precinct Takeover: A plan announced without the infrastructure to back it up

Like many in our community, I was surprised by the Minister for Planning and Lands’ sudden announcement to intervene in train precinct planning around Cottesloe, Mosman Park, and Swanbourne stations.

The Minister’s approach was unnecessarily provocative and came without any engagement with local governments or communities — and without a real plan to address our century-old infrastructure.

Following this unanticipated announcement, I convened a meeting with all impacted local government CEO’s, Mayors, the Shire President and Commissioners to hear their concerns. Together, we called for transparent engagement and a comprehensive infrastructure plan, including rail and road upgrades, to ensure growth strengthens rather than strains our community.
